Mount Rainier is an icon of Washington State, drawing in explorers from all over the globe. White Pass is one scenic byway for accessing the area below this grand mountain (as well as Mount St. Helens). On a clear day, hikes in the Mt. Rainier-White Pass area present a line up of the highest summits available. I have an annual car camping trip on Memorial Day at the beginning of HWY 12 (White Pass) and we have been making time to hike in between campfires and sitting by the river.
My favorite places to stop post hike with friends are Farelli’s Wood Fire Grill, Alpine Inn, Cliff Droppers, White Pass Taqueria, Fargher Lakehouse, or just Pack A Cooler. You can learn more about these places in my Must Hike Must Eat Eating Out Guide.
Find out current conditions and as always, practice Leave No Trace. Pretty Please.
