If you follow me on Facebook or check out my trip reports, you know this is my favorite new place to stop in Darrington, WA after hikes on the Mountain Loop or North Cascades Highway (it’s faster to drive through Darrington than Burlington). If you ever wondered if there was a good spot to stop as you drove through town, I’ll let you in on a great place just off the main drag.
It is a smaller but homey establishment that up until now served just alcohol (and chips) so you although you could enjoy a beverage, you had to order from another restaurant in town and pick it up.
My fiancé likes a brew, I will enjoy a cider (they usually have two on tap). If not drinking, I will have the rootbeer on tap! Sometimes, you just feel like a treat after a hike. The River Time slogan is: Beer at an appropriate pace and the low key atmosphere reflects this.
However, after our fall hike to Goat Peak outside Mazama, we made it to the brewery before it closed and discovered they had added pizza to the menu. It comes on 12″x4″ flatbread and has homemade sauce. Not only that, they had a 10″ gluten free crust and pesto sauce!
Of course, we had to try it and it was delicious. Primal (not paleo) because of the dairy, but we did give them suggestions on dairy free/soy free cheeses they could keep in the freezer so who knows about next time we go!
They also have fun events during the year like Brushes and Brews led by Kristin Lavelle or Jennie Requa and a Gingerbread House Making Party open to families. So the next time you are headed out on a hike in this area, make sure you make time to stop by River Time and give them a try. They are closed Monday-Wednesday for brewing, as well as holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas.

*Even if they do add a vegan cheese, we were told that the crust is not. My guess is that is has gelatin in it.
