Zapata Falls was a short little hike we did after leaving Great Sand Dunes National Park and what a fun treat to do before getting in the car to continue our road trip.
Zapata Falls is about 3 miles south of the park on HWY 150 and about 3.5 miles to the trailhead. We had hoped to do the 14r, Blanca Peak, that was nearby but time and thunderstorms in the forecast squelched that.
But as you can see from the pictures, the kids had a great time exploring this waterfall hidden in a canyon. The road is pretty rough but it has a large parking lot and view point of the Great Sand Dunes.
Zapata Falls is a short .5 miles with minimal gain but you do have to wade through the water to reach the 25ft waterfall inside. For more information, click HERE.
