Ah, bacon. I’m not sure this recipe needs much selling but I figured I better write up a little bit. I did take all these pictures…
Trail mixes are a staple of most any outdoor menu and there are a billion ways to put one together. Everyone has their favorite things to toss in! I know I don’t even make the exact same batch each and every time.
Mine are often a mix of whatever I have on hand. These ingredients are pantry staples at my house, especially when it comes to what I toss into the dehydrator in large quantities.

I do dehydrate the bananas and pineapple myself but you can pick it up at most grocery stores. Trader Joe’s does sell products that do not have added sugars. You can read my tips on dehydrating fruit on my Dehydrating 101 page.
I get my bacon from several local sources but for things like this I like to get ends and pieces from Blue Valley Meats or Trader Joe’s because I am going to cut it up anyway (and it’s cheaper!).
I will cook it pretty well to render most of the fat out (save that bacon grease for cooking later!). I use a paper towel to “dry” the bacon out a bit more. This makes it last a longer without refrigeration.
Chop up the dates.
These are my favorite chocolate chips
I usually get my coconut from Let’s Do Organic more stores are carrying an organic coconut chips these days.
Toss it all together and store in an airtight container.
I find that it tastes even better after being stored together for a few days!
This mix reminds of being at a luau, perfect for when you are sitting on snow once again after only 4 months since your last trek in the white stuff!
Gotta love the Pacific Northwest.
And I do. 🙂
