I just realized I never really did a blog post on my section hike of the Oregon PCT this summer. I did write up my trip report over on Trail Journals but I thought I would put a little synopsis down here, along with some videos I took.
I can sum up this trip in just a few words.
Snow.
Bruises.
Bugs.
And Lack of Water. Again.
As a southbounder, I was one of the first folks to go through this section of snow covered trail, 200+ downed trees and horrific mosquito swarms and live to tell about it. I really thought in those first 6 hours that for once in my entire time hiking the PCT ever I was going to have to turn around and go home. It really was that bad.
I think people LOVE when hikers post videos from the trail, especially from inside their tent. I thought I would try it. Pretty sure it won’t be my thing (who wants to watch all that eye rolling?) but it’s fun for me to watch and remember how completely exhausted I was that day.
This was the only pass I went over (a pass of any distinction, anyway) and I was so excited to have made it, I climbed the peak and took this.
I enjoy every one of my adventures on the PCT and otherwise for different reasons but this one will not go down as one of my favorites. I have to admit that I’m glad I did it but this was mostly about finishing Oregon so I could move on to other adventures.
So, that’s a wrap on my hiking the PCT in Oregon. For now.
I did write a blog post on another hiker I met along the way that left an impression on me, you can read that here: I Will Never Know.
