If you are willing to snake up a steep stack of forested switchbacks that rise from the bottom of the Nooksack River Valley along the Mount Baker Wilderness boundary, this stunning ridge is yours to bask on. From here you can reach the High Divide Trail and Welcome Pass.
My Hike:
6/2016
I had yet to do a hike off SR 542 that was not socked in and today was no exception. Batting 0 for 6 now. I apologized to my hiking buddies! We left the trailhead at around 9:45am and because the trail is in such good condition (barring some mud) we made to the summit by noon. There is still snow at the pass but the summit was clear.
There were glimpses of the surrounding peaks and Shuksan but we had to be content with the exercise that got us there and the good company. We slushed back down and we’re back to the cars by 2:45pm. We did have fun noticing a shaft on the side of the trail just before the trailhead. We spent some time guessing what it was!
Directions: Drive east on HWY 542 (Mount Baker Highway) to MP 41.2, about 7.8 miles past the Glacier Public Service Center (just outside the town of Glacier). There is parking on both sides of the road but the trailhead is in the upper parking lot on the left.
