#ThrowbackThursday
This is part of a series of journal entries I have made while section hiking the Pacific Crest Trail since 2013 over on Trailjournals.com. I am moving them here to Must Hike Must Eat and updating them with photos (and maybe fixing typos). Look for them on Thursdays or you can head over to Trailjournals.com and read as many as you would like!

Destination: Deep Lake
Today’s Miles: 15
Start Location: Escondido Ridge
Trip Miles: 290.50
We are coming together as a team! Vowing to make our miles today, we were on the trail by 6am. We made 7.5 miles by 9:45am!
Then, we hit a tranquil bridge crossing (Lemus?) and stopped for a short breakfast. It was such a nice spot, our short break turned into a bit more than 2 hours. You can see from the pictures it was perfect for just relaxing in the sun and watching the clouds go by. My highlight was taking some chocolate out of my pack and having it be a new flavor, Ginger! It’s the little things…
My foot blister count is up to 6, one blister makes my footfall change, thus producing a blister somewhere else. Also, the inside of my left foot is complaining. Can’t get a break.
Today’s traffic included a large group of Boy Scouts, some overnighters and a young man going from White Pass to Stevens and back to Snoqualmie, in a rambling fashion, taking trails as he chooses. That’s the beauty of the trail. You can go wherever your heart desires. Also, for many of the places I have shown you, a day hike will get you there! 200 miles not needed.
Barb seems to be enjoying herself more and adjusting to the difference in long distance hiking. Picture taking, unfortunately, is one of the casualties. However, there was a certain satisfaction to making our destination and set up by 6pm today!
Deep lake is a wonderful spot, lots of sites and an upward view of Cathedral Rock. There was a family of four on the other side of the lake and the aforementioned hiker, but it felt like we had the place to ourselves.
It, also, had a pit toilet. Almost a luxury at this point.
It has been nice to have Barb with me, especially when we meet up for breaks or the end of the day. Having someone to discuss things I have seen adds to the experience.
“Did you see that amazing rock feature?” “Can you believe that climb?” “Weren’t the stars bright last night?”
