I can’t help but share this wildflower map by Northwest Wildflowers I saw posted on Facebook this last week. If you are wondering where the best places for spring wildflowers in the states of Washington and Oregon right now, it is the place to find out!
In the past I would go to Washington Trails Association and filter the trip reports for “Wildflowers Blooming”. Then I could see the trip reports where people reported seeing wildflowers on their hikes.
With Northwest Wildflowers, I can keep an eye on locations in the state I like to go for wildflowers (like Wenatchee or the Columbia Gorge), as well as learn about new areas that can be a source for those early spring blooms.
From the website:
December was mild and wet, and it looked like we might have a very early wildflower season in the Columbia River Gorge, but the mid-January cold snap put an end to those thoughts. February was chilly too, and things are now officially “running a little late” in both the Western and Eastern Gorge. In southwestern Oregon, things seem to be about on their usual schedule.
The website not only offers a map of Washington and Oregon with color coded dots where flowers are not yet ready, early blossoms and full on blooming, you can also find a list of hikes with wildflowers!
I hope this inspires you to get out and find some wildflower pops of color this spring. Have you been out yet hiking in one of the places where wildflowers are already in bloom this year?
If you don’t live within Washington and Oregon, Wildflower Search is another great place to access help on identifying wildflowers where you are!
