This poster hangs in the hallway outside the student office at the school I work with and I have an opportunity to walk past it often. The first time I saw a similar poster was in the Head Start preschool I worked at years ago, my supervisor had hung it on the staff bulletin board.

You would be hard pressed to visit a school that doesn’t have a poster like this displayed. I am sure that it is mostly directed at students but all of us could benefit from its wisdom.
- T=True Facts matter, do some research.
- H=Helpful Will what you share help or hinder?
- I-Inspiring Will it bring someone up or knock them down?
- N=Necessary Is what you have to say adding to the conversation? I have deleted so many comments or just shut my mouth with this one in mind. Not everything needs an answer!
- K=Kind Read my post What The World Needs Now Is Deep Kindness.
I think about this poster often, it is a reminder that I hope guides not only how I speak but how I direct myself and especially how I write. Some might consider it a bit Pollyanna or curated but I believe the instruction it offers is a lesson most of us could do better at. I am by no means perfect at it because, well, I can get heated when passionate about something. And there are times that call for passion and speaking up even if imperfect.
But I know that deep down, if we really want to do good in this world and make a difference we need to be thoughtful about what we say (and do). We need to T.H.I.N.K.

Have you seen this poster (or meme) before? Do you think it offers us guidance to better communication and relationship?
What would the world look like (especially SOCIAL MEDIA) if we applied this before speaking (and writing)? What changes would we see if what we shared was truthful, helpful, inspiring, necessary and kind?
