How very interesting that today when I logged on to WordPress that the Daily Prompt is the word Hike.
Every day they post a word to inspire you to write and folks post their blogs with what came to mind.
Hmmm…
I don’t think I have very many thoughts that don’t involve the word hike. Reminiscing about my last hike. Wishing I was on a hike. Planning my next hike. Reading about other people’s hikes.
Hike, hike, hike.
What is the universe trying to tell me today?
I’m sitting here on a Monday morning feeling rather blah because my weekend hike consisted of a brief time on the trails at St. Edwards State Park because the forecast was supposed to be quite nasty this weekend (but turned out rather okay) and I was in charge of two 9 year old twins. Although they are great hikers, this was my first time hanging out with them without their dad so I didn’t want to risk a miserable experience way out in the woods (thunderstorms in the forecast).
We turned out having a great time: walking together in the quiet woods avoiding rambling slugs, throwing rocks into Lake Washington (the ones they didn’t stick in their pockets), pointing out all the bug anticipating spiders hanging from strands over our heads among the emerging autumn colored leaves, and peeking into the crooks of old trees looking for possible geocaches.
And getting to know each other.
One likes the flavor of chocolate, the other chai latte. One like things in a straight line, the other in a round. One can throw with just a little bit more accuracy than the other. One tends to speak up more than the other, but often for his brother. One likes to challenge himself a little bit more than the other, but the other is always willing to go along.
I’ll trade that for my normal kind of hike any day.
The mountains will always be there.
Thanks for the prompt, WordPress.
