These are just a few of my pictures from our trip to Amboy Crater in Mojave National Preserve via Las Vegas in January of 2022. We had visited Mitchell Caverns the day before in the morning headed south to Route 40 to swing up to the Kelso Sand Dunes section of the Mojave Desert and this made for the perfect morning hike.
I wrote more about our January trip through the Mojave National Preserve on the blog but here you can see it was a beautiful place offering views out over the Mojave and adjacent deserts. When I was in Joshua Tree, I noticed it wasn’t that far from the North Entrance, as well!
The loop hike was about 3.8 miles and at the early hour of 7:30am, we had the whole place to ourselves.
You can learn more about Amboy Crater National Natural Landmark by visiting the BLM website for more information.
