Despite all my whining the last few months, it really was an incomparable year outdoors for me and those in my circle of outdoor loving friends. As always, it’s hard to whittle the list of my favorite hikes to one post but I’ll give it a try! Click on the pictures for my trip report, including photo galleries, GPS tracks and other details so you can plan your very own trip.
Segelson Ridge Snowshoe and Overnight
This one is a no brainer! My first overnight winter camping and a return with the bf to a little spot all our own just outside Darrington, WA. Who doesn’t appreciate a little solitude and tranquility. Well, most of the time anyway. This is a nice one for those who want to snowshoe a road and not worry too much about avalanche risk.
Lanham Lake Snowshoe
Another obvious pick! I managed to talk my son into his first snowshoe trip up Stevens Pass and we had a wonderful time (AKA: he said he would go again with his mother). This is a great novice snowshoe: short and close to the ski resort, not too steep and ends with a lake and a beautiful view.
Navajo Queens Garden Loop-Bryce Canyon National Park
I wrote about spring break and spending an entire week in the Southwest exploring many amazing landscapes but it’s no secret that Bryce Canyon National Park stole my heart. We only had time to do a short day hike, but I hope to spend more time in the backcountry exploring this unique location. If you haven’t visited this national treasure yet, make sure to add it to your list!
Munra Point
This was a new “hike” I checked out on the Columbia River Gorge in April and I use quotation marks because it is more of a scramble (you will definitely need you hands on this one). It is also NOT for those with a fear of heights, and it would be hard for dogs in some spots. This area was ravaged by wildfires this summer and at the time of this post the trail is not accessible. Please check current conditions before you go, hopefully the area will reopen soon.
Mt. St. Helens
This was my first volcano summit and accomplishing it with my bf’s lovely daughters made it all the more special. I’m not sure others like Rainier are on my list, but I think Mt. Adams may be next!
Agnes Gorge Trail
The bf and I don’t get out together by ourselves nearly as much as we would like to so our trip to Stehekin that included this hike brings back some lovely memories of our time together. I’m working on a post about this remote area but enjoy this trip report to whet your appetite!
Bedal Peak
This was my favorite scramble that I participated in with the Everett Mountaineers to complete my Alpine Scramble badge and it was one that definitely put all my skills to use. That is to say, pushed me beyond my comfort level in such a way I was not disappointed that the best view of the trip was the geological marker at the summit as we sat briefly at the top in the middle of the clouds instead of the 360 views this peak is known for. This one has a little bit of everything!
North Coast Trail
Yes, despite the fact this trail is the reason I am out of commission right now, this was one of my favorite trips this year. Not only because I got to experience the beauty of Vancouver Island for the first time, but it taught me some valuable lessons, as well as the fact that I am blessed with an amazing support system and hiking community. Nothing like an accident to test whether or not you are as prepared as you hope to be!
