My Hike:
10/2015
I was looking for something steep and empty and Sulphur Mountain fit the bill. You do spend most of the hike in the forest but grueling climb is all worth it to have the views to yourself at the top. Once up there, there are plenty of ridges to explore!
Directions: The Sulphur Mountain Trail starts 23 miles in at the end of the Suiattle River Road (FR 26) off SR 530 a few miles north of Darrington, WA. You can get there from either the Arlington (208) or Burlington exit (230) off I-5. This is a great road that turns to gravel but it is wide and well maintained. Drive 23 miles until it ends at the trailhead. This is, also, where you can enter the Glacier Peak Wilderness on the Suiattle River Trail to the Pacific Crest Trail. There is a campground here, too. Access to this trail was blocked in 2020, check current conditions above.
