One of my favorite projects this last year was writing an article for Washington Trails Association on podcasts that highlight a life spent outdoors. I not only got to learn more about the history of podcasts, I listened to some pretty inspiring stories about a wide variety of people’s outdoor experiences. Rough research, I know.
We have some pretty amazing local outdoor podcasts and I had the pleasure of interviewing them. Of course, one was pretty easy as I’ve been on the Cascade Hiker Podcast now a few times and Rudy and I work together as trail work leads for the PCTA. But connecting with Becca from Dirtbag Diaries and Emory from By Land was a unique and learning experience I won’t soon forget. All three are based right here in Washington State and we added a fourth interview with Gail from She Explores who focuses on podcasts about experiencing the outdoors from a woman’s perspective.
There were a few more local podcasts I did not get to interview for the article that are worth checking out, as well. My Olympic National Park loving friend Douglas over at Outdoor Society has a newish one called Singletrack that focuses on trail running and The First 40 Miles down out of Portland adds a science focus to their shows. I learned about how to use a ham radio from them! You should, also, visit Boldly Went by Tim and Angel Mathis of The Dirtbag’s Guide To Life. They hail from Tacoma!
Head on over and see for yourself why podcasts, especially those focused on the outdoors, are inspiring people to challenge themselves in new and exciting ways and maybe you will be next!
