One of the most important thing you can do before heading out into the wilderness is to be prepared by checking the conditions of the trail, the road to the trail and the weather expected that day. Although you should always be prepared for adverse conditions, knowing the forecast often means making better choices and having a back-up plan.
It can often mean the difference between life and death.
Here are a few of the websites I check when doing my planning and before heading out the door here in the Pacific Northwest.
- NOAA
- Weather.com
- NW Avalanche Center (they have a great app, too!)
- Avalanche Canada
- US Forest Service
- WTA Trip Reports
- Oregon Trip Reports
- Mountain Passes Info
- Mountain Forecast
