I quit my job.
No, I don’t have another job.
No, I don’t know what I am doing next. I’m going to take some time to figure that out.
If you read my very first post, You Have Got To Start Somewhere, it’s like that but without unemployment.
It’s a long story but this is what I posted on my personal Facebook page:
≈
“Jobs are like relationships, I guess. At some point, they can both take a turn for the worse and you know it is time to leave. It isn’t always a major event, it can be the piling up of a multitude of tiny things and before you know it you are buried under an avalanche of reasons to go. Too much history, too much baggage. What is important to you is heading in a different direction, values and principles no longer align. You wake up one morning and can’t make yourself go into the office. You realize that every time you do, you lose a little piece of your soul. You show up but you are not really there. Maybe it’s you, maybe it’s me. Maybe it doesn’t matter and the thought of being done is like a weight lifting off your shoulders and to continue won’t do anybody any good. You have no more fight and maybe it’s time to let someone else take it up. “Oh, but it’s a good job.” Yes, but pay and benefits aren’t worth selling your soul. I remember a time when I was younger where I stayed at a job past its time and I have to admit it didn’t end well. I was already past the point of gone and I let someone push me over the edge. I’m not sure if I’m any more mature now, but I’m reading the signs a lot better these days. Break-ups are hard to do but sometimes it means both parties move on better without each other. Here’s to whatever comes next.”
