I follow a bunch of hiking and backpacking groups on Facebook and many of them inevitably start talking about food on the trail. And most of it is processed junk with little or no value other than calories. The common myth is that you can eat whatever you want while hiking because you are expending so much energy.
Oh, the glory given to Snickers, Top Ramen and Nutella.
But the truth is, the quality of what you put in your body matters very much no matter how many calories you burn. How you treat your body matters not only in the moment but for the long journey of maintaining overall health.
So after doing a search and seeing nothing like it, I started a group called Paleo Hikers and Backpackers on Facebook and I’d like to invite you to join.
I’m hoping it will be a place for those of us who want to eat more than cheap sugar and grain on the trail can share ideas and ask for suggestions on eating healthier while in the great outdoors.
If it sounds like your kind of place, head on over!
