The storm of the century turned out to be all talk and media hype and not much action but heeding the call of safety I stayed close to home this weekend. I even brought in the garbage cans and picked the last of the raspberries in preparation.
I made it out for a movie (can’t remember the last one I saw AT the movie theater) with some bookclub gals and enjoyed seeing another interpretation of a book we read on the big screen. I’m terrible at remembering details more than a few weeks after reading a book so although I don’t recall it being as dark as it was portrayed. I felt they did a good job overall.
I spent some time with my son talking about expectations and his moving back home this week. He feels things will be different then before and I am hopeful that we won’t be butting heads as often. He is hoping that living with me will allow him to pay me back money he owes and find a job that has more potential. He definitely appreciates how much it takes to live on your own and the cost of things. He even hopes to go without a car for awhile now that he has gone 2 months without one and realizes how much less he’ll have to pay for insurance.
I did drag myself out of bed to go find a place to walk in the woods where I wouldn’t have to worry about a tree falling on my car, I love that I live close to places like Lord Hill Regional Park. I was up early enough I only saw three other people on my 2 hour hike, but this place is big so that is typical.
Sunday afternoon I was cooking the community kitchen I volunteer at in Bothell, serving up Beef Stroganoff and veggies for about 80 folks who came out. Although it is a bit of a drive, it felt good to be productive to balance out all the time I spent cuddled up under the covers this weekend.
I ended Sunday visiting some friends from church with my mom for fresh oyster mushroom omelets. Barb did a week of my Washington PCT hike in 2013 and her husband was a big support for that section. They hike and climb together so we shared some of our summer adventures, including amazing pictures from their trip to Evolution Valley and the John Muir Trail in California. Now I have another hike to add to me list…
The weekend overall was rather anticlimatic, as weekends often can be after the excited buildup from a long work week before. But I can go to work Monday knowing I did more than household chores and laying around in my yoga pants.
Now to get excited about next weekend to get me through this week!
